Sharing & Permissions

Share dashboards with team members or publish publicly.

Ballast offers multiple ways to share dashboards with others.

Organization Sharing

By default, dashboards are visible to members of your organization who have access to the underlying collection.

Collection Access Required

Users must have at least viewer access to the collection to see dashboards created from it.

Publishing Dashboards

Make a dashboard accessible to anyone with the link:

  1. Open the dashboard
  2. Click Publish
  3. Optionally set a password
  4. Copy the public URL

Public URL Format

https://app.ballast.sh/public/dashboards/your-dashboard-slug

The slug is auto-generated from your dashboard title.

Password Protection

Published dashboards can require a password:

  • Set during publish
  • Viewers enter password to access
  • Can be changed or removed later

Unpublishing

To remove public access:

  1. Open the dashboard
  2. Click Unpublish

The public URL immediately stops working.

Cloning Dashboards

Create a copy of any dashboard you can view:

  1. Open the dashboard
  2. Click Clone
  3. The copy appears in your dashboard list

Useful for:

  • Creating variations
  • Personalizing shared dashboards
  • Testing changes

Permissions for Published Dashboards

Published dashboards show data from the underlying collection. Consider:

  • What data is visible in the charts
  • Whether sensitive information is exposed
  • Who might access the public URL

The dashboard creator is responsible for ensuring appropriate data is shared.

Best Practices

Review before publishing

  • Check all chart data
  • Remove sensitive information
  • Use password for restricted audiences

Use cloning for customization

  • Clone shared dashboards
  • Modify your copy
  • Keep original intact
